Psalm 24.
Let not a thing be rudely treated,
nothing, not even a stone;
for all things respond to courtesy,
yield grace to the gentle touch.
Here is one truly vital choice,
one great decision as to what is right,
whether to devote the mind to the solid world
and thereby guarantee its peace,
or leave it to serve the person,
to suffer cruelty and strife.
The pebble in the palm of the hand
is more real, more alive, more self
than any character in the head,
than any voice within the head.
