I Met Her In My Fancy.
I met her in my fancy,
a girl as kind as she was fair,
a girl from whom the kindness
flowed as abundantly as her hair.
To my needs she had surely tended,
so free I felt from care,
and yet, so complete her goodness,
she did not stop just there.
She bade me not to think of her,
not to spend my love in dreams,
but to keep it for the living,
for what's real and not what seems.
So, mindful of her caution,
she as wise as she was fair,
I turned and left her,
faithfully left her there.
