The Murder Of Mary Anne Kelly.

 Said the doltish young farmer:

'Sure, I didn't mean to harm her.

'Twas only a bit of a laugh.

I tried to restrain her

 but I couldn't contain her;

she was buckin' like a frisky young calf.

 As a sort of a joke

I put me hand on her throat,

and, I suppose, that's how she lost her life.

 I only wanted to kiss her.

I really do miss her.

  I used to dream of her bein' me wife.'

They, the jury, believed him alright,

could see he was truly contrite,

 that he was only an awkward young dope;

but, whatever he said,

the girl was still dead,

 and he paid for his lust with the rope.
