Bird's-eye View.
They can only be pitied,
all earthbound creatures,
those who cannot dart at will
from the ground to a branch above,
or go skimming over back gardens,
or fly on a whim to a rooftop,
who know not the thrill of the air,
the liberty of the sky.
The One who gave us wings
has not been equally kind
to all the living.
Some, for reasons I dare not question,
are poor lowly featherless things.
They must surely be jealous,
seeing we are so favoured,
feeling their inferiority.
