Seagulls.
Within the space of one full cry
not once but many times they cry,
the one mournful sound repeated
from far above where they glide,
but the volume ever diminishing,
as if fading with distance,
mimicking that phenomenon, the echo,
claiming all that echoes echo,
all the sad reverberations,
all grave memories,
all sense of loss,
all feel of the abyss,
all greyness and regret,
despair,
doom,
death.
