Yet Another Visitor.

There is something about a city,

any large old city,

with its centuries of history

and its certainty of centuries to come,

that mocks our own brief span,

we the latest strollers of its streets,

another passing generation,

making no more lasting impression

than the head upon the pillow

in the hotel bed,

that the bottom upon the bench

in the pleasant park.
