As We Forgive Those.

I, for one, am glad,

 glad to forgive my enemies,

but only when they are dead,

it only then, to be honest,

that my forgiveness is sincere

and not liable later to falter

in scenes of inner turmoil,

sure proof of hurt repressed.

What greater punishment than death?

What revenge more satisfactory?

Knowing that they are no more,

then, like them, I am at peace,

 fully and perfectly recompensed.

'Capital!' I exclaim.  'Just capital!'

Yes, I am glad,

glad they are dead

that I may forgive them,

be relieved of all resentment,

the burden and the bother,

finally and for ever.

Indeed, who could not forgive the dead?

Surely even God could forgive the dead?
