Pure Heresy.

He would be shocked to be told

that he, of all people, is religious,

but in fact his faith is very strong,

faith, that is, in his own opinions.

What else are our firm beliefs,

however unholy the subject matter,

but our own personal religion?

And, alas, he is openly zealous,

quick to challenge the transgressor,

frankly proclaiming his objection,

abruptly grave and outraged,

however casual or jovial the setting,

with no apology for spoiling things,

for killing the spirit of the company,

all sacrificed to his righteousness.

Him and his damned religion!

They sin who disagree with him.

Not that he seeks to convert.

No. Dissenters must be burned,

burned on the spot, at once consigned

to the fire of his indignation.
